| Kavik was my first Siberian after I decided that I would adopt an older husky that needed a home rather than a young puppy. After a successful home check by the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain, I was waiting for the right dog to come along, when I became aware of several dogs that were looking for homes. I went to visit the breeder who was rehoming a team of dogs on behalf of their owner who could no longer keep them due to a change in circumstances, and the rest is history! Kavik is nothing what I expected from a husky! he is laid back and quiet, wanting nothing more from life then a comfy bed and his dinner! Not quite the active raring to go dog I was looking for. I had thought that he was missing his kennel mates having gone from a kennel housing several dogs to being an only pet and that he was also missing running in harness as I was told he had done so with his previous owners, this was all the excuse I needed to go off in search of a friend or two or three for him! |  |
Although he does enjoy having the youngsters around and still has a mad 5 minutes when he will charge around playing, with them running in harness is not his forte! I had hoped Kavik would enjoy working in harness but alas very quickly realised that he did not have the will or the way and after a few races running with Indi, Kavik made it very clear at Aviemore what he thought of this racing lark by sitting down and refusing to move! I stopped running him with Indi and he is quite happy in his role of chief cheerleader and puppy trainer. Given his age now very rarely enters the show ring, much preferring to remain on the sofa. He is now the old man of the pack, more like a token figure head than actually in charge, Luka has taken over the actually day to day of keeping the order but all youngsters still hold him in high respect! Kavik doing what kavik does best, chillin'!
